Born and raised in Gulfport, MS, Josh started playing electric bass when he got his first bass for his 17th birthday. A musical prodigy and fast learner, Josh quickly became proficient performing in many bands in and around his hometown. Josh has enjoyed playing in a variety of genres including jazz, afro-cuban, R&B, rock, religious and musicals. He also plays other instruments including piano. Until the time he met the Murphy's, Josh had never listened to bluegrass or played an upright bass. His introduction to bluegrass was when he was asked to fill in on bass with Delta Reign for a bluegrass festival. He borrowed an upright bass for the show, fell in love with it and the bluegrass genre, then decided to join the band. He invested in his own upright bass and hasn't looked back. |
